1. Engine & Combustion

A mixture of fuel and air is drawn in through the intake valves to the cylinders. Spark plugs ignite this mixture, and the controlled explosion causes the pistons to move up and down. The crankshaft converts the up-and-down motion of the pistons into 'rotational' motion, which, in turn, is transferred to the transmission, setting the vehicle in motion. Spent gases from the combustion process are removed via exhaust valves and exit through the exhaust system.

Have your engine air filter inspected every 8,000KM and replaced if needed. A clogged filter starves your engine for air, reducing fuel economy and increasing emissions.

2. Lubrication System

The lubrication system, including oil, oil pump, and oil filter, is designed to protect the engine from wear, overheating and energy loss caused by friction between moving parts. To keep your engine running smoothly, have your oil and filter changed at the recommended service intervals. Toyota Engine Oil System Cleaner also helps to clean and protect engine surfaces, and keeps new oil at maximum operating performance.

3. Drivetrain

In general, the main components of the drivetrain are the transmission, which controls the power and torque transmitted to the drive wheels; the differential, which changes the direction of the driving power and enables wheels to rotate at different speeds when corning; and the driveshaft, which transmits power from the differential to the wheels. The entire system uses a variety of fluids (e.g., differential oil) that need to be checked and replaced according to the recommended maintenance schedule.

4. Fuel System

The fuel system, including pressure regulator, fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel lines ensure a proper flow of fuel to the injectors, which in turn deliver a mist of fuel to individual cylinders. Over time, impurities in fuel can reduce injector performance. Toyota Genuine Complete Fuel System Cleaner removes deposits that can build up in the system to help restore lost power and acceleration and reduce exhaust emissions. A full fuel system cleaning process, known as EFI system cleaner service, is also recommended every 80,000 kilometres.

5. Cooling System

The cooling system, including radiator, thermostat and water pump, removes heat from your engine to maintain optimal operating temperature, protect internal engine components from corrosion, lubricates the engine's water pump, and helps ensure proper functioning of your vehicle's cabin heating system. Replacing coolant according to the recommended maintenance schedule helps extend the life of the cooling system.

6. Steering System

The steering system transmits driver input from the steering wheel to the steering rack via the steering column, which, in turn, transmits steering force to the wheels. Depending on your vehicle, the steering rack can be hydraulic or electric. The power steering pump and lines provide power assist to reduce the effort required to turn the steering wheel.

7. Brake System

The brake system is designed to slow and stop the vehicle in response to driver pressure on the brake pedal. The master cylinder changes the force applied to the brake into hydraulic force. Brake fluid is used to transfer this force under pressure via hydraulic lines to the braking mechanisms near the wheels. Regular lubrication and cleaning of braking components helps ensure proper functioning and reduces premature wear. Brake fluid should be changed according to the recommended service schedule.

8. Tires

Tires play a crucial role in your Toyota's overall safety and performance. Toyota Canada recommends that tires be inspected every 6 months or 8,000 kilometres as required. Proper inflation, and early and regular tire rotation help to extend the life of your tire. When it comes time to replace your tires, your Toyota dealer can assist you in finding ones that best suit your needs. For your convenience, Toyota offers 15 of Canada's top tire brands.

9. Air Conditioning System

The air conditioning system regulates the flow, temperature and quality of air to keep the passenger cabin comfortable. The cabin air filter captures unwanted particles such as pollen, dust and other pollutants before they the passenger compartment. Over time, filters can become clogged, reducing the airflow from your air conditioner and heater. These filters should be replaced every 12 months or 16,000 kilometres.

10. Electrical System

The electrical system, including spark plugs, electronic igniter, alternator, starter and battery, provide the power to start the engine and set the combustion cycle in motion. They also provide power to other components, such as headlamps, stop lamps, computers, wipers, audio system and more. Battery service and comprehensive electrical charging system evaluation should be performed according to the required maintenance schedule.
